FAQ

Which newborn should I choose?

I offer two newborn session options, depending on how much variety you would like from your session.

The Simple Package - 30 minutes
A short and beautifully curated session, perfect if you're looking for a small collection of timeless newborn photographs. Baby will be photographed mostly wrapped, with a small selection of poses and setups. There is very limited family posing and siblings are not included in this package.

The Ultimate Package - 2 hours
This is the option for families wanting a much wider variety of photographs. There is more time for different poses, wraps, outfits, props and beautiful baby-led images, as well as photographs with parents and siblings.
Both packages include access to my collection of newborn props, wraps, outfits and accessories, so you don't need to provide anything unless there is something personal you'd particularly like to include.

When should I book?

I'd suggest booking with me once you have had your 20 week scan. It's always best to book in advance, as my availability is limited.
Once you have paid your £50 booking fee, you have secured on of the limited spaces on my calendar. Your due date is noted down, and you'll let me know when little one is here, and we can confirm a date that suits within the first few weeks.

How long is the session? What if my baby is unsettled?

The Simple Package lasts approximately 30 minutes and is designed to be short, relaxed and focused on your baby.
The Ultimate Package is around 2 hours, allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, cuddling and settling, as well as a much wider variety of photographs.

There is absolutely no need to rush if your baby is unsettled. Your baby sets the pace of the session, and breaks for feeds and cuddles are normal and expected. I am experienced in soothing and settling newborns, and will keep your little one warm and cosy throughout.

When is the best time for my newborn session?

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed in the 5-15 days old window. This is when they are usually at their sleepiest and most settled, making it easier to capture those beautiful, sleepy, curled up images. If your baby is a little older, please don't worry! We will still create beautiful images together, with some added personality!

Can siblings come along?

For the Ultimate Package, absolutely! Sibling photographs are included and we will usually photograph these towards the beginning of your session, while everyone is fresh and happy.
I do strongly recommend that siblings are collected or taken home after approximately the first 30/45 minutes. Newborn sessions are calm, quiet and can take up to two hours, and having a quieter studio for the remainder of the session helps your baby settle and allows us to make the most of your time. I also feel it is a lot to ask of little ones to sit quietly and patiently for this amount of time.

Sibling photographs are not included in the Simple 30-minute Package.

what if siblings don't cooperate in the ultimate session?

Don't worry, that's completely normal!
We'll photograph siblings at the beginning of the session, when they are fresh and excited to be involved. After around 30 minutes, I recommend that siblings are taken home so the studio can become calm and quiet again.

The rest of the session can then focus entirely on your newborn, with plenty of time for feeding, cuddles, settling and all those beautiful individual photographs.

What should baby wear?

You don't need to worry about choosing an outfit for your baby before you arrive.I provide a carefully selected collection of newborn outfits, wraps, props and accessories, chosen to complement my natural, timeless photography style.

For the Simple Package, your baby will be photographed mostly wrapped, allowing us to create beautiful images within the shorter session time.

For the Ultimate Package, we have more time to include a wider variety of wraps, outfits and poses.

What should parents and family wear?

Simple, neutral and timeless. Think whites, creams, beige, taupe and other warm neutral tones. For dads, please try and avoid blue jeans. It can affect the warm, soft feel of the final images. Stick to brown or beige trousers. For moms, I understand you aren't feeling your best after just having your little one. Loose, comfortable clothing works particularly well. You absolutely don't need to wear anything tight or uncomfortable, feeling relaxed is far more important.
For siblings, I recommend the same, soft minimal and neutral tones. Zara, H&M and Next do really nice clothes that compliment my style.

Please bare in mind when selecting your outfits, the studio is usually around 26-28 degrees, this super toasty environment is ideal for your new baby, keeping them settled and cosy.

Do we need to be in the photographs?

I strongly, strongly encourage parents to be included. Your baby will have countless photographs of themselves, but this time is about capturing your family, and these will be the most treasured images you own.

For the Ultimate Package, I strongly encourage parents to be included. Your baby will have countless photographs of themselves, but this time is about capturing your family, and these will be the most treasured images you own. I'll guide you through everything, and the photographs will focus on natural connection rather than complicated posing.

The Simple Package includes very limited family photographs, so if focusing on family images is important to you, I recommend choosing the Ultimate Package.

What do I need to bring with me?

Plenty of milk - whether you're breast or bottle feeding, bring along whatever you need for a couple of feeds. There is a kettle in the studio for warm water if needed.
A dummy, even if your baby doesn't usually take it. It can be incredibly helpful for settling baby between poses.
Muslin cloths - always useful for little spills and feeds.
Slippers or cosy socks for family - you'll be much more comfortable, and comfort is key.
Snacks - particularly for Ultimate newborn sessions, as these are 2 hours long, and feeding a newborn is hungry work!
Your chosen outfits -Ideally come wearing them and ready to go.
I provide hot and cold drinks, but if you want to bring something along for yourself that's fine.

can you edit things out?

My aim is to get everything right in camera, this allows me to get your images to you faster, and prevents them being overly edited, here are some common things to consider:

Fake tan - If you choose to wear fake tan, please note that your skin tone will appear warmer in your final images compared to your baby and family. I would gently advise against this, my final editing style adds a depth of warmth anyway.

Tattoos - Real tattoos are beautiful, artistic and photograph beautifully. However, children's temporary tattoos should be removed fully before your session, otherwise they will be visible in your final images, we don't want to take away from that classic and pure feel of the images.

Nails - Broken acrylics or chipped nail varnish can be seen in your images. I would advise removing beforehand. It's quite common on the morning of a session for a family to not notice their child wearing chipped nail varnish in the holidays, please be mindful of this, as it will show in your final images, especially in those gorgeous close ups.

how do I pay?

It's simple, your £50 booking fee is taken when booking in, and your balance is due on the day of your session.

There's nothing worse than wanting to keep each beautiful memory to treasure forever, but I understand funds aren't always available when we want them. For this reason, I offer a payment plan. You can spread the cost interest free, and will receive your galley upon final payment.

how do I prepare on the morning of our session?

Before you arrive, try to give your baby a lovely full feed and, if possible, enjoy a little awake time with cuddles, talking or some gentle play. A warm bath can also help if this is already part of your usual routine. Dress baby in something loose and easy to remove, and bring plenty of milk for feeds during the session. Most importantly, don't worry about getting everything perfect! Babies sleep, wake, feed and need cuddles at their own pace, and we'll simply work around them.
