FAQ

When should I book?

I'd suggest booking with me once you have had your 20 week scan. It's always best to book in advance, as my availability is limited.
Once you have paid your £50 booking fee, you have secured on of the limited spaces on my calendar. Your due date is noted down, and you'll let me know when little one is here, and we can confirm a date that suits within the first few weeks.

When is the best time for my newborn session?

Newborn sessions are ideally photographed in the 5-15 days old window. This is when they are usually at their sleepiest and most settled, making it easier to capture those beautiful, sleepy, curled up images. If your baby is a little older, please don't worry! We will still create beautiful images together, with some added personality!

Can siblings come along?

Absolutely! Siblings are involved in every single newborn session of mine where this isn't your first baby. I do ask that siblings come along for the first part of the session to capture those precious images together. Arrangements will then need to be made for siblings to be taken home or cared for elsewhere for the remainder of the session. This is because my sessions take around 2+ hours, and this is understandably difficult to expect young children to sit quietly for that length of time. Keeping the studio calm, quiet and relaxed helps keep baby settled and allows us to get the very best from your session.

What do I need to bring with me?

Plenty of milk - whether you're breast or bottle feeding, bring along whatever you need for a couple of feeds. There is a kettle in the studio for warm water if needed.
A dummy, even if your baby doesn't usually take it. It can be incredibly helpful for settling baby between poses.
Muslin cloths - always useful for little spills and feeds.
Slippers or cosy socks for family - you'll be much more comfortable, and comfort is key.
Snacks - newborn sessions can be a few hours, and feeding a newborn is hungry work!
Your chosen outfits -ideally come wearing them and ready to go.
I provide hot and cold drinks, but if you want to bring something along for yourself that's fine.

What should baby wear?

I provide all the newborn outfits, props, wraps and accessories during your session. I have carefully selected beautiful, natural pieces to compliment my photography style. That said, if there are any items you wish to include in your session and feel they are inkeeping with my timeless, minimal style then please bring them along!

Bring your baby exactly as they are, you don't need to worry about whether they've slept, fed or settled before you arrive. Babies cry, feed, poo and need cuddles, it's all totally normal!

What should parents and family wear?

Simple, neutral and timeless. Think whites, creams, beige, taupe and other warm neutral tones. For dads, please try and avoid blue jeans. It can affect the warm, soft feel of the final images. Stick to brown or beige trousers. For moms, I understand you aren't feeling your best after just having your little one. Loose, comfortable clothing works particularly well. You absolutely don't need to wear anything tight or uncomfortable, feeling relaxed is far more important.
For siblings, I recommend the same, soft minimal and neutral tones. Zara, H&M and Next do really nice clothes that compliment my style.

Please bare in mind when selecting your outfits, the studio is usually around 26-28 degrees, this super toasty environment is ideal for your new baby, keeping them settled and cosy.

How long is the session? What if my baby is unsettled?

Your newborn experience will be around 2-3 hours. Allowing plenty of time for feeding, changing, cuddling and settling. There's no need to rush. Most babies will have moments with a few cries, this is completely normal. Your baby sets the pace of the session, and I am experienced in soothing and settling newborns, and will keep your little one warm and cosy throughout.

Do we need to be in the photographs?

I strongly, strongly encourage parents to be included. Your baby will have countless photographs of themselves, but this time is about capturing your family, and these will be the most treasured images you own.

You don't need to feel camera ready, loose clothing is perfect and your images focus on the connection with your baby rather than looking directly at the camera. And if you decide you don't love it, you simply don't have to choose it. But you'll never regret giving yourself the chance to be in those memories.

can you edit things out?

My aim is to get everything right in camera, this allows me to get your images to you faster, and prevents them being overly edited, here are some common things to consider:

Fake tan - If you choose to wear fake tan, please note that your skin tone will appear warmer in your final images compared to your baby and family. I would gently advise against this, my final editing style adds a depth of warmth anyway.

Tattoos - Real tattoos are beautiful, artistic and photograph beautifully. However, children's temporary tattoos should be removed fully before your session, otherwise they will be visible in your final images, we don't want to take away from that classic and pure feel of the images.

Nails - Broken acrylics or chipped nail varnish can be seen in your images. I would advise removing beforehand. It's quite common on the morning of a session for a family to not notice their child wearing chipped nail varnish in the holidays, please be mindful of this, as it will show in your final images, especially in those gorgeous close ups.

how do I pay?

It's simple, your £50 booking fee is taken off the balance of your image selections, which is payable once you receive your viewing gallery.

There's nothing worse than wanting to keep each beautiful memory to treasure forever, but I understand funds aren't always available when we want them. For this reason, I offer a payment plan. You can spread the cost interest free, and will receive your galley upon final payment.
